Mechanical Technologist

SCM Engineering is seeking a motivated and experienced Mechanical Technologist to join our growing team. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys technical problem solving, project coordination, field work, and collaborating within a fast-paced engineering environment.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, drafting, coordination, and execution of mechanical engineering projects across a variety of industrial applications.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare mechanical designs, layouts, and technical drawings using industry-standard software.

  • Assist with project coordination, scheduling, procurement, and technical documentation.

  • Conduct site visits, inspections, field measurements, and commissioning support.

  • Coordinate with engineers, clients, contractors, and vendors throughout project execution.

  • Support the development of specifications, reports, and drawing packages.

  • Participate in quality control and internal design review processes.

  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or related discipline.

  • Minimum 5+ years of relevant industry experience.

  • Strong understanding of plumbing and mechanical systems, industrial design practices, and Parts 6 and 7 of the Ontario Building Code.

  • Familiarity with the National Building Code of Canada, National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings, and National Plumbing Code of Canada is considered an asset but not a requirement.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.

  • Valid Ontario driver’s license.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual salary: $75,000 to $95,000, based on experience and qualifications.
